THE PHOTO SUBMISSION FOR PHOTO CHALLENGE: 1 MALAYSIA COMMUNITIES AND DESTINATION IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED

Update as at 1 May 2010

Dear participants, friends, associates and project partners,

Good News to all Participants!

The Public Voting for the Photo Challenge is Canceled.

After a lengthy consideration and based on the fact that the Public Voting section would cause uneasiness for those who are participating in the Malaysia In 24Hrs Photo Challenge - 1 Malaysia Communities & Destinations 2010, especially for those based out of Kuala Lumpur, the Organizing Committee has agreed to cancel it.

The judging will be done on 15th May at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur and the deadline for submission is by this 7th May, so for those who are concerned initially about the Public Voting section, we look forward to your participation and join the many who have already submitted their entries.

Please visit www.mastercontest.com over the next few days to get the latest updates.

Good luck,
The Competition Management

Update as at 25 April 2010

Dear friends, associates and project partners,

Latest Announcement: DATELINE FOR SUBMISSION EXTENDED TILL 7th MAY 2010 Malaysia in 24Hrs Photo Challenge "1 Malaysia - Communities & Destinations 2010"After much consideration and owing to the fact that the 1 month announcement for the competition may be a little too short of time for interested participants preparing their existing photographs or going out and capturing the shots and also considering the time to post to our office, the Competition Management has decided to extend the submission dateline to 5.00pm on 7th May 2010.

With this, we hope that all participants will be more confident of their postage reaching us on time.

Again, do take note that the theme does not necessarily mean that one has to have various races or people of different religions together in the picture. Please refer to our earlier update on the explanation of the theme.

As a reminder, the TOP 100 final entries will be exhibited and judged at the Malaysia Domestic Tourism Fair at (Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from 14-16 May 2010.

Good luck,
The Competition Management

Update as at 19 April 2010

Today, i have been asked again for some examples of 1 Malaysia Communities & Destinations 2010.

And these are some questions raise:

  • Must we get different communities in the photograph? (answer is not necessary but if you can get a shot of different communities been together at a destination would be an advantage, though)

  • Can we just submit a photo of a destination? (answer is yes, but some who can submit one destination with a community or communities may have a better advantage)

  • Can we just submit a photo of only a community resting in the evening after work? ( Yes, but do get a shot that has the background or in some way related to a destination. Otherwise, it is just community and no destination and you may find it hard against those who have both in the photo.

In summary, please use the following explanation as your guide and let your imagination develop from it. The winners will of course be based on well how each shot is captured and able to tell its relation to the theme:

Just imagine a group of people, irrespective of whether they are from different cultures, religion and background spending time together. They do not need to be combined in terms of religion or race or culture. It can be just a group of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans etc or foreigners like Koreans, Japanese, French etc. They can be drinking, relaxing, dancing, chatting, resting, window shopping, buying stuffs etc etc. However, they have to be at a location which can be known as a destination for example Batu Caves, Mulu Caves, Petaling Street, Chinatowns, popular Parks, shopping complex like KLCC Suria, buildings, museums, places of worship that are considered as destinations, favourite beaches, islands, mountains, hills, lakes, national parks like Gunung Ledang, Pulau Kukup, Tanjug Piai, Endau Rompin, riverside, public gardens, underwater coral reefs, Marine Parks, etc.

While some may not know if the location is considered a destination or not, then why not just try if you have no other better shots and let the judges decide. One good suggestion is to check out our local tourist information brochure and you will immediately realize there are more destinations than one would be aware of in Malaysia.

Checking out the dictionary on the word "communities" may also help.

Good luck,
Stephen Ronee Lau
